FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions

The programme is run internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). In Poland it is delivered by Green Key Polska, which acts as the national operator of the programme.

Hotels, hostels, small accommodations, campsites, cottage villages, tourist attractions, cafés, restaurants and conference facilities. The programme covers a wide range of tourism and hospitality establishments.

The duration depends mainly on the facility's resources. Facilities with a dedicated environmental coordinator or team working on the process continuously typically complete it within a few months, especially if they have already undertaken eco-friendly activities.

It is advisable to appoint an environmental coordinator to oversee the entire process, and to assemble a team with departmental leads responsible for specific criteria areas — for example cleaning chemicals, the kitchen or waste management.

On average up to approximately 3 hours, though the duration depends on the size of the facility. The audit includes an opening meeting, a facility walkthrough, document review and a brief closing summary.

Fulfilment of all mandatory criteria is required in order to obtain the certificate at the application stage. Subsequent audits allow a limited number of deviations to be corrected within a specified timeframe; failure to correct them may result in loss of the certificate.

A physical on-site audit is conducted at each application and renewal. In non-audit years, documentation and reporting confirming continued compliance with the criteria is required.
